Allen was presented with his Black Belt in June 2001 by Team Alliance founder and 6th degree Black Belt Romero "Jacare' " Cavalcanti. This made him the first American Black Belt awarded under Team Alliance.

Allen has succeeded in establishing his academy as one of the most highly regarded in the United States and in 2008 was awared Instructor of the year by the North American Grappling Assocation (NAGA)
